Gower and Pembrokeshire- Lure angling, foraging and cooking breaks with Chef Matt Powell. In the words of Matt Powell “Everything we need is around us we’ve just forgotten that it’s there”

Matt is a fanatical bass lure Angler and forager , who will open your eyes to the wide variety of fish, seaweeds, shellfish and hedgerow and woodland treats that are under your feet. Then for a perfect finish to the day Matt can teach you how to cook a fantastic meal with your fun found produce.
The course will be based at the Quabs log cabin set in the woods looking over the trout ponds or to put it another way set right in the centre isle of Matts super market!  Matt is a top class chef so you can guarantee the food you have foraged will be an unforgettable meal.

What Matt offers?
Matt offers days or weekend foraging, Bass angling and cooking courses, while the seasons will dictate what edible treats are available in a given month you can choose which of the disciplines you would like the emphasis on.
You could if you wanted have a day’s Angling and a day foraging and eating.
Here are just some of the activities that Matt offers:

For Bass lure angling the Season is May to November.
Please note - The lure angling is weather and tide dependant to selected marks from Gower to Pembrokeshire. We do practice a catch and release policy on locally caught Bass; with preservation in mind we work with a local sustainable fish supplier. The methods I use can be applied at other venues “sensibly”.
The hedgerows, woodlands and wide open spaces foraging (all year shoreline edibles, Mushroom and berries late summer to late autumn)….
Costal foraging (all year Walking, fishing, rock pooling, shellfish and seaweeds)

Costs will vary depending on what package you require. Short breaks and Lure angling or foraging will start from just £75 per person, all packages will include plenty of time with Matt and his expertise.  Matt is also happy to taylor courses for you, just let us know what experience you are looking for.   To find out more about Matt then please look on his website www.chefmattpowell.co.uk

Typical summer itinerary
Bass lure angling at either the Gower or Pembrokeshire (weather depending), and or foraging along the coast of the chosen coastline. Matt will then be available to come back to the Quabs to cook dinner for two to four people.

Typical autumn itinerary (End of September to end of October)
Bass lure angling at either the Gower or Pembrokeshire (weather depending), and or foraging in local woods and the chosen coastline. If you like Matt will then be available to come back and to the Quabs to cook for two to four people.
Typical winter Itinerary (November)
Shoreline foraging- Razor clams (tide dependant) and wild shoreline edibles. Cooking with Matt back at the Quabs.
